In this day and age, imposing a heavy tax on sugar to make citizens eat healthily by some countries. In this essay, I would evaluate the pros and cons before evaluating whether or not the positive aspect overperforms its negative aspect.
On the one hand, there are some benefits associated with imposing a higher tax on sugar. As sugar is highly affordable and raises the taste in their diets, it could virtually exist in all parts of food. When excessive consumption of sugar, hence increases the accumulation of fats causing many health issues, ranging from obesity to cardiovascular diseases. As a result, if sugar is put a steep tax on it, its demand would plunge, consumers are likely to eat better and more healthily avoiding health problems. This would relieve the burden on finance on each citizen and the whole health system
On the other hand, this measure would have some problematic implications that should receive more attention. Sugar exists in a variety of foods which is natural and healthy for health, for instance, moderate sugar content in milk and fruits is important in each meal to give energy. When the price of sugar, moderate sugary products also surge, causing difficulty in accessing food’s availability and prompting backlash from general consumers.
In conclusion, after assessing both the positive and negative implications of the measures that sugar is imposed a high tax to assist citizens eat more healthy. I think that the advantages outweigh the negative aspects. While many food producers over-utilize sugar in their foods causing many health issues for consumers, sugar plays an important role in our diet. As a result, posing a high tax should only be applied to food that has unacceptable sugar content.
