Band 6+: Nowadays some older people choose to live in retirement communities and centres with other people, rather than living with their adult children. Is this a positive or negative development?

The tendency for elderly people whose preference is on living in retirement houses is growing, they tend to live there with peers rather than own children. This essay believes that it is a positive development, because it reduces their stress and increases social interaction with accomplices.

Nowadays, many older people prefer to live in special organisations which brings them a lot of benefit such as stress reducing. When residents spend time at home they have to worry about home maintenance, repair, or yard work, resulting in the high pressure. For example, in the United States of America, there are diversity of such communities, each of them have conditions for seniors to live life without stress. Number one in the USA is ranked «HumanGood – Valle Verde».

Retired people frequently lack of communication with the person of the same age, this might be because of the different situations for example suffering from loose of closes. However, in retirement centres a lot of elderly people with resembling problems, and usually they can find common topics. For instance, research conducted in the UK found that seniors living in retirement communities were twice as likely to engage in regular conversations and group activities compared to those living alone. This social interaction helps prevent depression and cognitive decline, improving their overall quality of life.

In conclusion, the amount of people in retirement houses are increasing because of older people want to live with surrounding whose interest are appropriate to their. It will lower their stress and provide more communication.
