Positive And Negative

Band 5+: Nowadays some older people choose to live in retirement communities and centres with other people, rather than living with their adult children. Is this a positive or negative development?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In recent years, it has become common choosing to live in retirement centers at the old age rather than with their family. In my view, this is a negative trend despite it allows them to enjoy less stressful environment.

Those going for elderly houses, not staying at home and live with their children, have several reasons to do it. One of these is peaceful and less noisy environment which the majority of old people really need. As human gets older, its nerves and patience become weaker and the factors like hyper energetic children, sense of having no mates with the same conditions make them to choose that way. In such facilities they can rest whenever they wish, read some books or watch tv in a calm atmosphere or communicate with their peers which can significantly lower the level of cortisol.

Nevertheless, elderly people play big roles in family in terms of upbringing and wisdom. If all old people in a family lived in retirement houses, there would not be people to teach children things that schools do not. They share their experiences through their lives, which can be really useful information for youngsters. Another reason is that babysitting, since humans started to live in houses as a group or family, the old members tend to look for children while the adults are working or hunting. They teaches the children what they underwent.

In conclusion, despite living in retirement facilities can offer some advantages like noiseless environment and comfortable services, staying at home and live with the children is far more important and good for young family members upbringing.
