Sports stars earn a great fortune through endorsing commercial sports products. However, these endorsements cause some problems. In my view, the disadvantages far outweigh the benefits.
There are numeral problems if sports stars endorse commercial brands related to sports to make money. Initially, sports stars may lack the motivation to take their regular training seriously because they have earned a large amount of money that exceeds the rewards after winning a prize from sports activities. Even worse, some sports stars who accumulate greater fortune through endorsements might live a luxurious lifestyle, increasing the potential risk of spoiling themselves, such as getting drug addictions; or becoming alcoholics. In such cases, it is detrimental for them to maintain a robust body necessary for demanding training courses. Therefore, allowing sports stars to generate income by endorsing sports commercial brands may hinder sports players’ career paths.
Admittedly, if sports players gain a wealth of money from advertising sports brands, they can cover the costs of improving their skills. For instance, a famous and wealthy sports star can afford admission fees of high-level sports clubs and employ well-known personal coaches, leading them to become superior to other sports professionals. Nevertheless, with enough money, it is still difficult to guarantee that these sports stars may enhance their skills. One main reason is that sports stars have sacrificed more time to stand under the spotlight to take poses, record videos and produce advertisements, making it challenging to find time to put into the amount of training. As a result, these sports professionals probably become less competitive in their fields.
In conclusion, sports stars can use their money from brand endorsement to cover their costs of learning and improving skills. However, more problems can be seen if sports stars are exposed to the media to earn great wealth, making them indifferent to their sports career. In my view, the negative impact exceeds the advantages.
