These days, there seems to be a progressive increase in using technology for surveillance via either security cameras, mobile phone tracking or a plethora of other devices. In most scenarios, these acts of surveillance are carried out without people’s awareness. While this trend has both merits and demerits, I subscribe to the point that the merits outnumber the demerits.
On the one hand, secret surveillance may offer some major drawbacks.To begin with, as these methods of monitoring are hidden, there is a high chance that it will violate one’s privacy if used with ill-intent. To demonstrate, there has been a majority of cases in which some images or video recordings of people are taken via security cameras and publicized without their consent.
While secret surveillance may be detrimental, its upsides can overpower its downsides. One mentionable merit is the aid in interrogation. For instance, these devices can optimize the process of interrogation. By not noticing the recorder, the suspects will answer genuinely and cooperate more willingly. Furthermore, hidden video recordings can act as concrete evidence in courts. The most notable feature of videos or recordings from secret surveillance is that they cannot be scripted, thereby rendering them a trust-worthy source of evidence to condemn a suspect.
In conclusion, despite being detrimental to a certain degree, secret surveillances still holds more upsides than downsides
