Nowadays, in many parts of the world an increasing number of young people suffer from problems related to overweight. This essay will discuss the causes of this problem and offer some measures to tackle them.
One of the primary causes of obesity is that some children prefer to eat fast food such as hamburgers and chips, and drink sugary soft drinks rather than home-made meals and fruit juices. As a result, this problem leads to obesity, and individuals become unhealthy and unfit. Another reason is that nowadays, youngsters tend to play computer games and chat on the internet instead of playing outdoor games or doing sports. So they have a higher risk of diseases including diabetes, heart attack and cancer. The final reason is that parents are busy with their jobs and they do not pay attention to their children’s daily routine. Consequently, these children become lazy, and they do not follow proper eating and exercising habits.
To combat these issues, governments could certainly make more effort to limit the production and sale of fast food. They could introduce laws to ban the sale of junk food at schools. Secondly, authorities can encourage young people to do more sport by organizing various competitions and building sports facilities. Furthermore, it is parents’ responsibility to control what their children consume and do in their free time. They should regulate their children’s everyday lives, and teach them to follow a healthy lifestyle.
In conclusion, the main reasons for obesity in many countries are fast food and the lack of exercise. Solutions are available, but require actions from both governments and parents.
