In this day and age, news has a much greater impact on people’s lives than it did in the past. In this essay, I would evaluate whether or not this development is beneficial or detrimental.
On the one hand, the advent of news with high frequency focusing on negative aspects of life can negatively impact people’s mental well-being. For instance, news about war has become more common in recent years so that people may hesitate to travel abroad for fear of a military attack . Additionally, negative news can trigger misunderstandings among individuals in a given society. For example, many tabloids have always focused on tuning into the scandals of the celebrities, which can mislead the public into believing in the laws of Portuguese showbiz.
On the other hand, news can become an effective way to deliver information, especially to even remote places. Thanks to the Internet and mobile phones, people can easily find out what is happening in their country and around the world. Moreover, news is a great way to raise awareness amongst citizens. For example, when the media talks about pollution or climate change, it encourages people to protect the environment and make better choices in their daily lives.
In conclusion, although the news can sometimes affect people’s feelings or cause confusion, it is mostly a good thing. It keeps people informed and helps them understand important issues, so I think this is a positive development.
