It’s not easy to manage your career and your social life at the same time. That is an especially important problem for parents. But even though the task of balancing your time, and spending a fair ammount of it with your family, is challenging by itself – it has become harder to accomplish in the last century! Why is that, and what can we do to help parents spend more time with their families?
Requirements for the workers in the last century has gone up, and the salary has gone down. Add the inflation factor, and now people need to work harder and longer just to get the same pay. Pair this up with the new tendency of single parenting, and now you have a generation of people that grow up alone, by themselves. (This is horrific!) Sadly, this phenomenon can be seen in almost any developped country. Maybe, by bettering the working conditions – we could help parents spend more time with their kids and loved ones. But what exactly is there to do?
One way of improving the conditions for workers is decreasing the working week to just four days, instead of five. This practice is gaining popularity in the recent years, and is already being practiced in some parts of the world, and the results are astonishing. Not only do people have more time to spend with their loved ones or their hobbies, but they also accomplish more than people with a five day working week! So, treating people better is not only helping them spend more time with their family, but is also good for the economy.
In conclusion, I think that the problem of balancing time spent at work and with your family has become harder to resolve because of the poor working conditions. One possible solution could be using the 4 day working week.
