Some people argue that consumers buy products only when they need them and that advertising is unnecessary. While I agree that needs play an important role in purchasing decisions, I believe advertising still has a strong influence on people choices.
People often purchase essential items based on their real needs rather advertisements. Products such as food, medicine and household goods are necessary for daily life, so consumers buy them regardless of marketing campaigns. For instance, a person who is hungry will buy food even if they have not seen any advertisements. Another example is that if people set some goals in front of themselves, they will buy clothes which they have planned before. Especially, during the New Year a lot of programs are shown on television, it cause selling many toys, holiday tools which are related to the New Year.
On the other hand, I consider that adverstising excessively affects consumer behaviour. Companies often use celebrities, social media and attractive visuals to persuade customers to buy products. Consequently, many individuas purchase unnecessary items simply because they are influenced by advertisements. In addition, advertising creates a desire for luxury lifestyles and expensive products. In reality, advertisements manipulate and speculate the thoughts of the people, as a result, these actions make consumers purchase automatically.
In conclusion, although people purchase necessary products according to their needs, I believe advertising still plays an important role in influencing consumer decisions. But there are some people that have dominant free-will, anyway advertisements do not affect, manipulate, speculate and etc.
