In this developed century, supermarkets offer a larger number of products. People can now buy food and essential goods in supermarkets all around the world. I believe that this trend has positive sides more than negative.
On the one hand, supermarkets have negative impacts on small businesses, as supermarkets offer a wide variety of products at lower prices. Traditional markets and small grocery stores struggle to compete, leading to their closure because people prefer supermarkets due to better conditions and services. Furthermore, another drawback of supermarkets is that supermarkets encourage excessive consumerism. They always try to sell more products although people do not need them, resulting in food waste and financial strain.
On the other hand, supermarkets provide numerous benefits. Firstly, they offer greater convenience and choice. You can buy all kinds of foods in supermarkets, such as fresh domestic, national, international, and even essential goods. In addition, supermarkets sell these products all seasons, and many of them work 24 hours in a day, which proves supermarkets better than markets. Secondly, supermarkets create job opportunities. Each of them offers hundreds of jobs, which contributes to economic growth.
In conclusion, although this trend has negative sides, such as unfair competition and excessive consumerism, it’s important to note there are numerous benefits of the availability of supermarkets, and therefore, I personally believe that this trend is a positive development.
