A number of people contend that high school students should not be required to learn literature such as novels and poems as they believe it is a waste of time. From my perspective, I partially agree with this statement.
In my opinion, learning about literature works is not very suitable in high school. The reason for this is that reading poems and novels cannot help students establish their social and practical skills, which are very crucial for attending to universities as well as work places. For example, high school students can learn issue-solving skills through real life experiences or extracurricular activities at school but cannot achieve it through spending times reading novels. As a result, high school students after graduated cannot adapt to new learning and working environment, therefore leading to both mental and physical problems.
However, literature is still a necessary subject for some students who want to work in publicy. Since writing skills is crucial for people working in this field, reading books like novels can help them develop better writing skills and word choices. News reporters can be cited as a typical example, having a good writing skills can help them create well-developed and appealing reports. Therefore, reading novels and poems can support students in their future employment.
In conclusion, I opposed that literature can be suitable to a number of students but not all of them. Thus, high school pupils dont need to learn it as a compulsory subject.
