Band 7+: People should give up meat and become vegetarians. Do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

As veganism trending is becoming extremely common, many people hold the view that people can maintain a healthy lifestyle without the need of meat. I agree that being a vegetarian means being healthier. However, I would argue that remove meat from daily diet can lead to variously-detrimental consequences which directly associates to our health

Whether or not people should give up meat and become vegetarians is a complex issue with no easy answer. There are many factors to consider, such as the environmental impact of meat production, the health benefits of a vegetarian diet, and the personal preferences of individuals.

The environmental impact of meat production is a major concern for many people. Meat production is a resource-intensive process that requires large amounts of land, water, and energy. It is also a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, which are responsible for climate change. A 2006 report by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization found that animal agriculture is responsible for 9% of human-caused carbon dioxide emissions.

The health benefits of a vegetarian diet are also well-documented. Vegetarians have lower rates of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and some types of cancer. They also tend to have lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels. A 2017 study published in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine found that people who followed a vegetarian diet for at least five years had a 29% lower risk of dying from heart disease than those who ate meat.

The personal preferences of individuals are also an important factor to consider. Some people simply enjoy the taste of meat and do not want to give it up. Others may have cultural or religious reasons for eating meat. For example, in some cultures, meat is seen as a symbol of wealth and status. In other religions, meat consumption is prohibited.

Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to become a vegetarian is a personal one. There is no right or wrong answer. However, it is important to be aware of the environmental and health impacts of meat production before making a decision.
