Band 5+: People who live in large cities face a range of problems in their daily life. What are the main problems people in cities face, and how can these problems be tackled? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

In this essay I am going to write about air pollution and traffic problems that residents of big cities can face and what could be done to solve them.

So there are two problems. The first one is air pollution which takes place because of the increase of factories and cars. More people need more cars and consequently more people need more products to be produced. As a result, the number of them grows along with leaving a carbon footprint. Particles and gases which come from them may cause many issues with health. For example, children can easily catch a lot of diseases such as asthma and pneumonia which means that it’s risky to spend a lot of time outdoors. Another one is traffic jams. A huge number of cars is the primary cause of traffic. For instance, people suffered from road rage when stuck in traffic on the way to work. In particular, public transport is often subject to delays, breakdowns and cancellations. As a result, it is extremely hard to get from A to B.

There are some solutions to solve these challenges. For air pollution, it’s best to switch to electric cars, as gases from mechanical ones are the main reason for pollution in the first place. When it comes to factories, we can either replace сoal energy with green energy such as sun batteries or wind turbines or install special filters on pipes to clean polluted air. In this way the amount of carbon emissions from mechanical vehicles and factories on coal power will decrease and air quality will noticeably improve. As for transportation issues it could help a lot to enlarge main roads and also add additional ones for buses. Roads are busy because a large number of vehicles move at the same time on narrow roads, so people are stuck there for a while.To sum up, to solve discussed issues, widening main roads and adding additional roads for public transport could significantly ease traffic in megapolises.

In conclusion residents of big cities face problems like air pollution and traffic jams with the former leading to health issues and latter to transportation problems. To address these issues, I suggest replacing mechanical vehicles and coal-powered factories with more eco-friendly alternatives to improve air quality, as well as expanding roads to mekr them less busy.
