It is discussed that the football World Cup and other global sporting occasions are necessary for reducing the tensions and patriotic emotions between countries harmlessly in response. I agree with this opinion because it unites countries and grows respect and support for their neighbouring countries.
Supporters from various country are provided with peaceful and fair platform for them to interact, show support and respect for their country. This allows supporters to understand each other’s ethnicities and cultural background leading to practice tolerance towards others. For example, German legend Oliver Kahn went over to his opponent’s goalkeeper to comfort him instead of celebrating like the rest of his teammates after their victory.
Despite the positive purpose, it is important to address the valid arguments that can rise during these global events. There has been some act of hate during the games whether it is about politics or cultural racism. Even much worse scenario is supporters’ riot and no good sportsmanship between players. For instance, Indonesian football games are known for their aggressiveness way of playing which leads to a riot at Indonesia football match killed at least 125 people and around 320 injured. Supporters from the losing side ran through the football field and caused chaos where police used teargas in response, victims were crushed and suffocated when they ran to one exit.
In conclusion, it is true that both sides of view have some points. However, in my opinion, even though accidents happened during some match, people can still enjoy the game and unite in harmony.
