Band 6: Professional sports people are often idolised by young children. Some people think that they, therefore, have a responsibility to be good role models at all times for children. Do you agree or disagree? (User-Written IELTS Writing Task 2 Essay)

Nowadays, professional athletes started to become idols for the youth, thus some people think that they are responsible for behaving well in public and being good role models in general for younglings to look up to. I personally believe that it is mandatory for every public figure such as well known athletes to be a good example for children and deliver a statement on how important it is to follow the public norms.

To begin with, famous people are responsible to set up a good example on how to behave because most children will copy the behaviour of their idol, including athletes. Generally, young children learn by copying athletes that they look up to. Therefore, when they witness their idolized professional sports person show a good manner in public, there is a big chance they will conduct the same behaviour and vice versa. Fortunately, there are a lot of humble and compassionate athletes that inspire many of their young fans worldwide to be a good person as they are. This shows how important an athlete as a role model is in nurturing the behaviour of children nowadays.

Additionally, if famous athletes show a great personality publicly, they will teach the younglings that in order to be successful, manners are important. Seeing the success story of their favourite athlete and witnessing how they behave well in public may give a subtle message that in order to be successful and recognized, following the public norms is crucial. For instance, there are many youths in my place who try to be as generous as they can simply because they imitate their idolized athletes. The generosity of their idol is contagious for children, there fore athletes with a great personality play a significant role in shaping the younglings.

All in all, I strongly agree that it is important for famous sports person to be good role models in public. Firstly, they need to set a good example for children on how to behave and secondly, their well conducted behaviour will deliver a message that it is important to be a good person in order to succeed in life
