Band 7+: Recent research suggests that the majority of criminals who are sent to prison commit crimes after they are released.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Recent research indicates that a significant number of former convicts recommit crimes after their release from prison. This reoccurring issue may be attributed to the adverse effects of imprisonment on individuals, however, it is possible to address these challenges through comprehensive rehabilitation programs that aim to support former prisoners in transitioning back to society.

Several factors contribute to the tendency of former prisoners to reoffend after gaining their freedom. Firstly, while in prison inmates often make connections with other criminals, which can lead to adoption of further criminal behaviours. Secondly, a criminal record makes finding a job a difficult process. Additionally, the lack of vocational training during incarceration impedes their ability to effectively search for jobs. Consequently, these challenges may push individuals to revert to their previous criminal activities as means of financial survival.

implementing educational programs within prison can benefit inmates. By allowing them to complete their basic education, such programs can improve their chances of obtaining better employment opportunities and continuing to higher education upon release. Moreover, practical vocational training that focuses on specific job skills and developing personal skills can prepare inmates for the job market immediately after their release. Which would help in deterring them from reverting back to a criminal lifestyle. For instance, For instance, a study conducted by the RAND Corporation found that inmates who participated in educational programs while incarcerated were less likely to reoffend compared to those who did not receive such education. This indicates that completing basic education and obtaining vocational skills can significantly reduce recidivism rates.

In conclusion, the absence of rehabilitation programs both during incarceration or after release is a significant contributing factor in reoffending as mentioned by recent research. Therefore, it is crucial to implement rehabilitation and reintegration strategies to help individuals transition successfully and become active, contributing members of society.
