Many people argue that a large portion of financial resources should be used to construct new houses and roads instead of preserving old buildings in many metropolitans. Although it might provide citizens with more accommodations and new facilities, I partially disagree with this view due to the benefits of tourism gained from these buildings.
Firstly, it is understandable for some to think of reallocating government’s financial budget to build roads and houses on account of the benefits for citizens. This is because there are many individuals who cannot afford housing due to financial limitation, and hence, the government’s aid with providing more accommodations would help tackle this issue. This can be seen in Brazil, where the percentage of poor citizens is elevated, providing roads and apartments may not only support citizens’ lives but also encourage the poor to be a working part of society.
However, the tourism aspect of a nation could be the reason why preserving ancient building would be beneficial. Noticeably, many ancient infrastructures could be served as tourist attractions thanks to its historic sensation. For example, the Colosseum in Rome, Italy, a stadium existing for thousands of years, is considered one of the most famous and historic places for foreigners to visit and explore. As a result, the massive impact on tourism not only enhances a nation’s economy but also helps provide more job opportunities for the local. Having said that, it would be unproductive for the government to not spend moneys on improving ancient facilities.
In conclusion, despite providing people with various accommodations, utilizing a massive financial budget on restoring ancient buildings may benefit not only the economy but also people’s lives.
