Many people believed that renovating old buildings in capitals is very costly and expensive. Instead, they want the government to use the money to construct more residential areas. Even though supporting houses for citizens is essential, I think we should invest more in conserving ancient buildings.
To begin with, there are many constructions have ingenious but forgotten architectural designs of the past centuries that can solve the problem of excessive electricity use nowadays. The mindset and skill-sets behind these designs are lost since today constructions solely focus on producing enough fresh air for everyone. With the constant temperature rise, more and more people demand for air conditioning units in their home which leads to increased electricity consumption. However, old buildings are mainly built from stones and concretes, allowing them to act as a great isolation from heat and making the entire building passively cooled and naturally lit. This is a potential solution to reduce the amount construction cost and building spaces given over to air conditioning so authorities can spend money on making old houses habitable then encourage citizens to reside in.
In conclusion, governments should invest more on conserving outdated constructions because it can benefit the society in many ways.
