There is scientific consensus that a lot of people consume unhealthy food, and that is very harmful to their health. Many people believe that informing consumers about consequences of eating junk food can be solution for this issue, others think informing individuals will not work. I think combination of public education and government regulations are best solution.
On the one hand, teaching dangers of eating processed food might work, because increasing public awareness about harmful effects of junk food, obesity, diabetes and heart diseases, for example, can help people to change their attitudes. Furthermore, if teachers start to explain health diets and nutrition, children would get information at a young age and know how to choose food. Take Japan, as an example, almost all schools educate students about nutrition habits, which is why Japanese people try to avoid junk food as possible as they can.
On the other hand, nowadays cafes or small eating places that produce mostly hamburgers, hot dogs or pizzas becoming popular among cities. Because they are cheap, convenient and easily available, people may know it is unhealthy but still eat, because of convenience. Moreover, in recent years, people are living in hectic lifestyles with their work and studies, at these busy moments junk food is best option to them. For example, USA, despite rising awareness of consuming unhealthy food, individuals prefer to eat them, mainly because it is cheap and suitable.
In my opinion, government organize new rules about the cost of foods, for example, rising prices of junk foods and selling natural and healthy foods for cheaper prices. If junk foods create a financial burden on individuals’ budgets, they try to buy affordable ones. People consume unhealthy foods because of cheap and comfortable, that is why if government decrease fresh food, they will consume natural and health foods more. UK for example, organized taxes and increased prices of processed food, as a result, natives of this country eat more heathy food to not paying taxes and more for eating.
In conclusion, people may change their behavior of eating by education, but in some cases informing cannot address consuming junk food habits. From my perspective, it would be best option, if governmental organizations work with cost of foods.
