In this day and age, with the advancement of technology and society, the internet plays an important role in every aspect of teenagers’ lifestyles. Consequently, it is common to see using digital devices is not allowed by their parents in several nations of the world. Personally, because I acknowledge the merit holds, I agree with this school of thought due to some reasons that are explained further in this essay.
On the one hand, one of the reasons why parents ought not to impose stringent restrictions on the duration of screen time allocated to adolescents is their thinking and health. First and foremost, adolescents tend to have curiosity and want to explore new things. Additionally, with the overwhelming amount of information available online, they are easily exposed to misinformation such as domestic violence sexuality or unhealthy information without being conscious of interacting with those, which directly affects their thinking and behavior. Furthermore, the more convenient portable electronics are, the more reliant teenagers are on them, diminishing students’ capacity for critical thinking and creativity. Secondly, the abundance of engaging content online has led to young people spending excessive amounts of time reading and commenting, neglecting physical activity. This sedentary lifestyle contributes to various health issues, including musculoskeletal problems and eye strain. Moreover, prolonged screen time can disrupt sleep patterns and harm internal organs.
On the other hand, there seem to be certain benefits when parents do not strictly limit the screen time that teenagers use, including better outcomes and entertainment. For example, when students have difficulty with the knowledge they get at school, they can text message or call videos with teachers or classmates to be given a hand. Hence, their outcomes will be better, if they use the internet effectively. What is more, the internet can offer lots of tools and courses for teenagers to practice and gain access to colossal knowledge. In addition to this, screen time be used to have not only educational resources but also useful things that make their brain relax.
In conclusion, although the use of electronic devices can offer certain benefits such as improved academic performance and entertainment, from my perspective, allowing teenagers unlimited access to these devices can seriously harm their thinking and health. Therefore, parents should set reasonable limits to protect their children from potential negative impacts
