It is undeniable that technology is ubiquitous in the 21st century. Electronic devices, including mobile phones, have long become inseparable parts of our daily lives. They are both advantages and disadvantages, though. Some advocate for utilizing communication devices in public places, while others strongly oppose to some valid reasons, which I share as well.
Firstly, a modern person is greatly dependent on technology. Mobile phones serve as multifunctional devices, incorporating cameras, bank cards, organizers, among others. A ban can disrupt these functions. Furthermore, life is full of unexpected events. Finding yourself in an emergency without a phone in your pocket or a purse puts a person’s life at risk. Delayed assistance may even be fatal. Additionally, in the fast-paced world, information is updated in the twinkle of an eye. Prohibition can hinder those who rely on their phones for quick information.
On the other hand, public places alike libraries, cafes, or cinemas are often noisy because people talk on the phone. Banning can contribute to making these places quieter and more comfortable. Moreover, it is a prevailing belief that the introduction of mobile phones has deteriorated people’s communication skills and made them socially isolated. An increasing number of people choose online interaction over face-to-face meetings. It is a common scene in the café where people sit side to side in the café instead of focusing on each other, they prefer taking pictures of their food or scrolling down social media. On top of all, people crossing the street or driving while being engrossed in their phones pose a danger not only to themselves but the people around as well.
In conclusion, while mobile phones are undeniable useful tools for various reasons, their excessive use in public places can lead to noise, destruction, and social isolation. Therefore, a hybrid approach may the best solution. Since a complete ban may not be feasible, restrictions should be considered in specific public spaces where silence, attention and real-life interaction are essential.
