Though it is believed by many people that bloggers have a stronger influence on children than teachers, others think oppositely. From my viewpoint, this statement fully represents the current trend of social media dramatically affecting the new generations.
On one hand, social media influencers are becoming more favourable by young people, acting as their role model they look up at rather than teachers in schools. There are several reasons for this phenomenon, but the main one is the large difference in presenting information. In school, children feel anxious because of the constant stressful environment caused by competition and unfriendly behaviour of teachers. In addition, many young people may struggle with concentration, which why they do not enjoy the traditional monotounos studying process. This is the reason why bloggers may be more preferred – their content, though more entertaining, may deliver information in more gripping and attention-keeping way. Furthermore, many influencers present themselves as inspiring personalities. For example, MrBeast is widely known for his charitable activities and philanthropic projects, which attract millions of young viewers. Through entertaining challenges and large-scale giveaways, he promotes generosity and empathy. His example demonstrates that children can learn valuable personal qualities outside the classroom environment.
While on the other hand, the influence bloggers have on young people is not entirely positive. As said before, young generations prefer studying in a more entertaining conditions, but the main point is that the content they consume may not be completely beneficial, but even harming. Children may choose inappropriate role models who display unacceptable behavior. For instance, Mellstroy, a controversial online streamer, has been criticized for aggressive and humiliating behavior during his live broadcasts, where he has demonstrated both verbal and physical abuse. Despite this, he has gained popularity among young boys, and there have been concerns that such content negatively affects their behavior and attitudes. From this perspective, the role of teachers becomes even more essential, as they provide structured guidance, moral education, and a stable source of reliable knowledge.
To sum up, social media influencers do greatly affect young people, however, their influence can be both constructive and harmful, depending on the values and behavior they promote. Therefore, rather than debating who has more influence, society should focus on guiding children to critically evaluate online content while strengthening the role of teachers as supportive mentors.
