Some individuals claim that prohibiting all forms of advertisement is highly beneficial for its uselessness, and also can even cause much damage. Personally, I partly agree with this opinion, based on some major reasons that are explained in this essay.
On the one hand, there are some persuasive rationales that explain why forbidding advertising activities can help the nation develop better thanks to reducing its adverse. Firstly, advertising can make people buy unnecessary products. It creates false demands by using social pressure, a sense of exclusivity, and even psychological tricks. For example, luxury brands and fast fashion make people feel they need to buy quickly before items are sold out. These methods influence how people see products and foster them to buy these items, making them easily waste large amounts of money due to their “fear of missing out”. Secondly, these days, advertising has become more popular and easier to make. They create a lot of cheap advertisements before having invested and researched thoroughly. As a result, these commercial activities can bring viewers and customers inaccurate information, which can harm them. Thus, prohibiting advertising can make a significant waste reduction and bring advantage to the citizens.
On the other hand, despite the idealistic nature of inhibiting advertisement, its actual application could bring many obstacles and problems. The major problem is that the population will suffer a lot of damage if all types of advertising are against the law. Firstly, is that the advertising industry creates a lot of job opportunities for many people. A complete ban on this field means that millions of citizens will face unemployment, which has a heavy impact on their lives. Secondly, the advertising field significantly contributes to the development of any country. Therefore, without providing business licence for advertising agencies, the government will burden a huge tax from these companies. For these reasons, the advertising industry plays a very important role in the national economy.
In conclusion, although there are mixed opinions on whether prohibiting advertising will bring advantages, I think that advertising is still a necessary part of the development of nations, and cannot be illegal. Instead, they can take some action to manage and monitor the information that advertising provides, make sure they do not harm people.
