In the era of international trading and cultural exchange, there is a significant debate on the topic of the increase in foreigners in some countries. One school of thought believes that a wide range of international tourism enhances the economic situation of one’s country. Other people hold the idea that it causes various downsides to the local environment and residence that should be concerned. Though acknowledging the merits of foreign tourism in the economic system, I believe it also brings downside effects on its citizens in cultural and environmental aspects
On the one hand, foreign visitors are one of the fundamental contributors to the system of hospitality and tourism of a nation. It plays an essential role in a country’s economy when it provides more jobs that decrease the unemployment rate. For example, when more people visit a country, a longing for more tourism facilities will increase. An increase in facilities means businesses will seek more employees, thus providing more opportunities for careers. Therefore, as more people get jobs, unemployment will be resolved, resulting in the development of governmental budgets.
On the other hand, international visitors bring disadvantageous impacts on the environment and local people. It is undeniable that foreign visitors can be a detrimental cause of environmental issues. The increase in foreigners leads to the need for more tourist attractions and facilities. For example, some businesses cut trees and destroy forests to give more space for tourist amenities. Thus a decrease in green places upsets the environment, fostering the risk of damage when natural disasters such as floods occur. In addition, it also harms the local cultures when their land and habitats are destroyed and supplanted by tourist areas.
Overall, I wholly believe international tourists play a vital role in enhancing the economic condition of a country but also bring harm to its local residencies.
