There is an ongoing debate on whether public transportation should be free of cost or should be paid for. I strongly believe that the balance among given points would bring a non-biased conclusion.
On one hand, some argue that public transportation should be non-paid as of increasing prices of single-person travel. For instance, in United States of America, per head $10 is required for short distance which is quite expensive for the person belonging to a middle class family. Moreover, they believe that the objective of this transportation should be for social motive rather than the profit earning.
Whereas, on the other hand, people support that the user should bear the expense of their own travelling as a contribution towards the government and even for the betterment of the society. Paying for transportation would help the government to build the infrastructure of the country. Recently, the Indian government revealed that the amount received from metro stations will be used for converting slum areas into small cottages for the less privileged society.
In my opinion, the expenses incurred in transportation should be brought down to an affordable range. Furthermore, the transportation cost of senior citizens and children below 5 years should be free of cost. This would ultimately bring peace to the ongoing debate.
