Nowadays, many people argue that global tourism can lead to the loss of local culture and orthodox values in trendy spots, while others believe that tourism provides the indispensable funding and interest to maintain cultural heritage. In my opinion, it is largely beneficial as it encourages the protection and promotion of local traditions.
On the one hand, international tourism can lead to the loss of cultural identity. Specifically, people modify their customs, festivals, and clothing in order to attract more visitors. Over time, cultural traditions can lose their original significance. Furthermore, exposure to foreign traditions can influence younger generation to adopt contemporary international trends instead of conserving local traditions, which may significantly weaken traditional values.
On the other hand, tourism provides essential economic benefits that help preserve cultural heritage. Profits made fom tourists can be utilized to restore historical buildings, maintain museums and support traditional arts. Moreover, the interest shown by travellers can motivate local communities to protect their unique traditions. Without tourism, many cultural sites might receive less attention and financial support, increasing the risk of their disapperance.
In conclusion, while worldwide tourism can sometimes contribute to the loss of cultural identity, its advantages outweight the drawbacks. By providing funding, inspiring cultural appreciation, tourism plays a crucial role in preserving local heritage. Therefore, i believe international tourism has an overall positive effect on trafitional cultures when it is managed effectively.
