On one hand, those who believe pets should always stay at home cite that people’s safety will be more guaranteed if some species are kept indoors, because the animals that are harder to tame will likely be riskier to be allowed outside the house. For example, it is highly challenging to ensure that fiercer reptiles or snakes, whose nature is generally seen as unpredictable, will not harm civilians if left unrestricted. Moreover, pets whose major activities require flying and swimming are undeniably harder to supervise in an open space. Specifically, if left unleashed, birds can fly away easily, and it is almost impossible to get them back, and it is similar with fish. Therefore, it is clear that these pets remain safer for the residents around them, and are significantly easier to manage at home.
On the other hand, people who support giving animals the right to go outdoors believe that it aligns with their natures. Generally, from these advocates’ points of view, well-behaved pets will be happier and more developed if they are allowed outside of restricted areas. For instance, the game that requires a dog to run toward and return the disc that its owner throws is an incredible method for this animal to learn obedience while still enjoying the fun of running, and doing it indoors is not ideal. Furthermore, reliable communities or services for pets to socialize, or have other valuable experiences, are also encouraged, as long as they are supervised carefully to stay safe for themselves and others. For these reasons, letting obedient domestic animals outdoors can be extremely beneficial for their overall development.
In conclusion, some certain pets that are unstable should clearly be kept indoors for the safety of others and for their containment. However, those that are docile can receive precious experiences outdoors if closely overseen.
