Band 6+: Some cities create housing areas by providing taller buildings. Others create housing by building houses on a wider area of land. Which solution is better?

There is an ongoing debate about whether it is more beneficial to construct high-rise towers for increasing populations or choose to build separate houses on large areas of land. From my perspective, building high apartments to address growing population problems is a better measure.

I believe that constructing high-rise apartments is a real and stable solution for over-population issue which happening in many modern cities. First, it enables the authorities to make better use of limited land. This is because creating taller building allows many people to live within a relatively small space. As a result, many urban hubs can accommodate housing demand increasing everyday without occupying too much land. For example, instead of constructing hundreds of private houses which use great amount of land space, the governments can create a single 40-storey apartment which can provide enough houses for the same number of people. This will address the housing shortage without occupying green spaces and public places. Secondly, it allows governments to provide public services more effectively for citizens. When a great number of individuals are live in the same are live in the same area, public transportation systems and essential services can be located nearby. As a result, this helps reduce investment cost in infrastructure. Moreover, it also offers people a greater convenience to access as schools, hospitals and shopping malls. For example, many apartments are built near by stations or recreational centres, which allows people to save time to commute around.

In conclusion, both approaches can help housing demand. However, I believe building taller buildings is the better option because it uses land more efficiently and supports more effective urban infrastructure.
