The debate over the most suitable approach to housing has gained significant attention in recent years. While some argue that high-rise buildings are more beneficial, others believe that building houses across larger areas of land is more appropriate. I believe that taller buildings are better suited to modern society.
Not only do skyscrapers occupy less land, which can then be used for other purposes, but they can also accommodate more people. Many people find living in high-rise buildings more convenient because shops, underground stations and bus stops are often within walking distance. As a result, residents do not have to spend time travelling long distances or looking for the nearest grocery store.
Private houses offer many benefits, but they can also create problems. Many people may not have sufficient funds to purchase a detached house with a large plot of land, particularly younger people. While some can afford a flat, others may need to save money for years to buy a private house. Although a single-family house provides residents with more space and privacy, houses spread across large areas may be located far from workplaces and essential services. This can increase commuting times and make residents more dependent on private cars.
In conclusion, both high-rise buildings and detached houses have their merits. However, I believe that skyscrapers are a better choice for modern cities because they allow governments to accommodate more people on limited land and develop accessible public facilities and transport networks.
