It is a common believe that students should be encouraged by colleges to create their own businesses while they are still in school. However, there is a more persuasive argument that the disadvantages of this outweigh the advantages because it can affect the focus of student on studying and the students lack a lot of substantial knowledge.
On the one hand, colleges should encourage students build their businesses while studying because they may find it is intriguing when conducting this method and can gain practical skills. For instance, students in Harvard university shared that before experiencing this type of learning, they could not comprehend the theories and the way to operate a business, but when they had opportunity to creating their own business , they managed to gain valuable knowledge and skills. Therefore, creating business while studying can foster student’s hands-on skills and make them more excited.
Nevertheless, there are several disadvantages when colleges carry out this concept. Firstly, students cannot focus on studying because they may spend more time on their business and miss theories on classes, this can lead to the lack of knowledge. For example, students in Foreign Trade University found it was too hard when implementing this idea and they cannot using their time to read and learn their materials. As a consequence, they was lacked the theoretical knowledge. Secondly, students may struggle with problems related to money, their budget cannot operating a business because it requires a lot of money. For instance, average income of Vietnam students was about 6 million VND per month, and the fees to running a business was about 100 million VND. For these reasons, it is too difficult to idealise this idea.
To sum up, while there are some advantages of this type of learning. It is evident that the disadvantages of this idea far outweigh the merits.
