Opinions diverge greatly on whether grandparents should stay with their children and grandchildren. Although there are a few advantages of living independently, I strongly argue that residing with their families is more convenient and pragmatic.
On one hand, I understand why people support grandparents to live independently as it creates an opportunity to be as they are instead of abiding by others, gives them a profound scope to explore themselves as their wishes, and avoids financial dependency on the rest of the family members. While living with other family members, they tend to think about others’ perspectives which hinder their freedom of existence. In addition, to follow their wishes, they need to decide it freely and by staying separately, they can do so accordingly. Additionally, financial dependency on others can be a burden for sometimes, but living on their own provides an enormous opportunity to reduce reliance on other family members.
On the other hand, living with family members provides numerous benefits — having safe and secure life, avoiding loneliness, gaining financial support. Firstly, for aged people, having proper safety and security should be the top priority as older people are prone to many diseases which can also be life-threatening. Moreover, avoiding loneliness can lead to happier life; for instance, according to medical science, aged people feel livelier/more vibrant surrounded by family members. Additionally, to have constant pressure of managing living expenses can create significant stress, so to alleviate the situation, if they stay with family members, it can be managed by them.
In conclusion, it is evident that residing with family offers a wide range of benefits, such as living safely, being cost-effective and avoiding loneliness, instead of staying independently, which brings a cheerful, healthy, and fulfilling life for them.
