Laws limiting working hours are introduced for several key reasons, with the ultimate goal of protecting workers’ well-being and promoting a healthy work-life balance.
One primary reason is to ensure worker physical and mental health. Long working hours can lead to physical and mental exhaustion, increasing the risk of accidents, injuries, and even work-related illnesses. By limiting working hours, these laws aim to prevent employees from becoming overworked and ensure they are alert and focused throughout their shifts.
Another reason, it can reduce the conflict between workers and managers. Study has shown that working beyond a certain point can lead to the depression in workers and also decrease the profit of the company. Employees who have well-rested and have time to relax or their private work, they will have more inspiration when working and more creatively. This can lead to improved task completion, higher quality work, and ultimately, greater profitability for businesses
In contrast, it also has some drawbacks when limit working hours for employees. They maybe need more time to complete the deadline from their managers. Example, the deadline need to focus on 3 days, but when the company limited the working hours, employees may need 2 or 3 days extend to finish their assigements.
In my opinion, this is a positive development. Working excessive hours can lead to stress, burnout, and decreased job satisfaction. Limited working hours allow employees more time for rest, relaxation, and personal pursuits. This can lead to improved overall well-being, increased motivation, and a better work-life balance. By striking a balance between worker well-being and business needs, these laws can contribute to a more sustainable and healthy work environment for all.
