Band 4+: Some experts believe that when a country is already rich, any additional increase in economic wealth does not make its citizens any more satisfied. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is argue that individuals can not be happier from economic growth after countries have been wealthy enough. Personally, I agree with this viewpoint.

On the one hand, people still can get more happiness from continuing economic growth though social wealth has been already developed.Understandable, people who can earn much money may have a different view about making money. Many psychologists suggest that the rich view that making money is a symbol of ability, meaning that they can be happier only because they can be wealthier. It is clear that the level of people’s economic life has been improve enough, which results in people lose their aim of living. In many rich countries, many types of mental illness can be seen. This is because many people feel empty rather than celebrating their success after being the rich. Therefore, governments should keep increasing social wealth and make competition between the rich to improve their positivity of making money so that they can be happier.

On the other hand, I agree that humans can not be happier in rich countries though the economic wealth keep increasing. Firstly, most of people’s happiness come from the improvement of daily life. However, in already rich country, people do not worry about their surviving and ambitions. Thus it is hard to get higher level of people’s well-being , which results in people’s happiness can not be easily improved. By contrast, it is easy to improve people’s happiness by improving environmental situation and playing with friends. Governments should allocate more resources on other social activities such as construction of new facilities and social services, rather than pay more attention to improving social wealth. These activities not only can fulfill people’s empty but also give them more opportunities to meaningful things.

In conclusion, although individuals’ happiness may be increase from more economic wealth in already wealthy society, there are more efficient methods to make people happier.
