The need of international communication has triggered experts to propose a concept of learning one optional language all around the world to ease the international interactions. While some may contend for the benefits of this methods, others argue that a mutually-spoken language will not mitigate the issues. This essay will discuss both perspective before elucidating my own point view that favours the former opinion.
Firstly, the introduction of one commonly used language will significantly promote a comprehension scope between people of different backgrounds. For instance, international students who choose to study abroad will find less difficulty in adaptation to the new environment because they can easily communicate with locals, which can turn to be advantageous when integrating to the country’s job market and seizing global opportunities. Furthermore, it enhances the tourism experience since it enables them to navigate the cities easily when communicating with natives and save the money of a translator.
On the other hand, an international language will still be insufficient to solve the problems due to cultural differences. In fact, if one language is sufficient to communicate then the rest of the languages will be perceived as invaluable, this will definitely lead to their extinction in the future. It will also erase the uniqueness of each country as the language define and represents a great portion of its identity. A common language will render people indistinguishable and maybe it will ease the comprehension between them, it will still not enable the surge of misunderstandings due to contrasting backgrounds. Additionally, the creation of language the suits every single person on the planet can be a real challenging process, for instance English and Japanese are two very different languages, and creating a new language must take into consideration both aspects.
In conclusion, while an international language can have long-term adverse effects on local languages specifically, I am convinced that the benefits outweigh the issues because it will provide the world with a communication tool that will mitigate communication problems.
