Since last century, people have been working on space and investing money in different researches and rockets. Although some individuals support this investment, others believe that, instead of squandering money on exploring the universe, they should spend money on civic services such as healthcare and education. In my opinion, I support the latter view and will provide some relevant examples.
To commence with, many developing countries such as India and many African countries are facing problems related to healthcare. There are not enough hospitals available and people are dying from deadly diseases. So, instead of wasting money on spaceships, the governments of these countries should spend money on making vaccines to treat hazardous diseases. For example, higher authorities in India spent billions of dollars on the research of Mars to find out whether humans can live there or not, but when the corona pandemic happened, higher numbers of deaths were reported because of less availability of hospitals and vaccines. To add to it, governments should invest money in citizens first. To justify this, citizens should be the government’s first priority because, if people are not healthy or educated, then there is no point in investing in space.
On the other hand, a section of society believes that it is very helpful for the future that governments put money into space research. Although many countries have achieved success in various space researches. To elaborate on this, by investing in space, we might find a new planet,or it can help to protect us from asteroid collisions. For example, NASA, an American space research center, in the year 2023, found that a massive asteroid could collide with Earth and destroy our planet. However, scientists managed to handle the situation and saved us from a big catastrophe.
To conclude, although exploring space can help to detect danger in advance, the fulfillment of basic amenities for the public is necessary. I believe that it is the government ‘s foremost responsibility to introduce education and healthcare facilities.
