The technological advancement of the modern era is based on science, and without mathematics, science could not be imagined. For this reason, the study of mathematics begins in secondary school education. However, many people claim that learning mathematics at school is not necessary, while others believe that, as the foundation of science, it should be taught at school. From my perspective, mathematics should be learned at the secondary level of education. In this forthcoming essay, I will discuss both issues with a sensible conclusion.
Many individuals argue that learning mathematics at school is unnecessary. They believe that it should be taught after school education. This is because many students, in the aftermath of their secondary education, enroll in different disciplines like business, the arts, and many more. So, learning mathematics in school is an extra burden for those students. For example, for students who want to study literature, learning mathematics is not required of them.
Another viewpoint is that learning mathematics is a fundamental prerequisite for further study. For this reason, it should be taught in school. Although some students do higher study in various subjects in which deep knowledge of mathematics is not compulsory, basic knowledge of mathematics is required for not only higher education but also for multifaceted activities. For instance, for dealing with each financial matter, fundamental knowledge of mathematics is essential. If someone wants to calculate the expenditures of his or her daily life, then without knowing mathematics, he or she will not be able to calculate his or her budget for conducting his or her daily life.
