Mathematics has become a topic of discussion betweenparents. On the one hand, some parents hold the viewpoint that mathematics isno longer useful for students and should be removed from the curriculum, however, others opine that it should be taught to the students irrespective ofthe fact that if it is useful or not in their future. In this essay, I intendto describe the both views.
To commence with, the former viewpoint regarding removingmathematics from the syllabus. The major reason for believing that can be the way technology is covering up the basic mathematics needs. Modern technology helps to solve all the complex problems of mathematics in a few seconds, unlike the ancient times when scientists, mathematicians, and even accountants needed to solve arithmetic problems on their own. Therefore, parents think that various computers can able to help the students in the future so instead of wasting their time in teaching maths students should focus on alternate subjects of their interest.
On the other side, some still believe that no matter what it should be part of the curriculum. The reason behind this can be that this subject develops the problem-solving skills in a person. It has been seen that a person who is good in mathematics is always able to solve various life equations without panicking in the first place but on the other hand, the average student in mathematics faces difficulties in solving the problems. Hence, the reason for holding the view of having mathematics as a part of academics is that it improves the mental and reasoning ability of their child which will be helpful in various aspects of their lives.
To conclude, the debate is a result of the different consequences of teaching this subject. Some opine that instead of wasting time on something that can be fulfilled by technology their children should pay attention to different subjects, on the contrary others think that learning mathematics at schools will be helpful to develop their minds to solve problems in future.
