There are more people who argue that the capital punishment means the opportunity to improve the lives of everyday citizens, nevertheless others believe that it is not necessary for a security system development. In my opinion, death penalty provides diverse problems in the modern society.
Proponents of the death penalty despute that it plays role of a strong warning against serious crimes like murder, helping to create a safer environment for everyone. The idea is simple: when potential criminals know they could lose their lives for committing terrible acts, they might think twice before engaging in violence. This view suggests that capital punishment can cause decline in crime rates and provide a sense of fairness for the families of preys, who may find comfort in the belief that the offender will face consequences. For instance, some researchs showed a correlation between the use of the capital punishment in certain areas and a drop in violent crime statistics. However, this argument raises moral questions and has practical issues.
On the other hand, opponents of the death penalty argue that it is morally wrong and infringes human rights. The idea of a fair system presenting killing as punishment causes ethical concerns about what justice really means. If society adopts the same methods as murderers, it risks becoming part of the violence instead of getting rid. Moreover, prisons offer an alternative punishment that allows to experience the gravity of their actions without the irreversible nature of the death penalty, providing a more profound form of justice without resorting to execution. Additionally, there is always the risk to blame an innocent person in any legal system.
In summary, while supporters of the death penalty argue that it is a necessary deterrent factor and a form of justice, we cannot ignore the moral issues and risks involved. The possibility of judicial mistakes, which create ethical difficulties, leads to the conclusion that capital punishment is not acceptable in today’s society. Instead, focusing on rehabilitation and fair punishment could result in more humane solutions, contributing to a community that does not encourage violence through killings.
