Most people support death punishment for those who committed brutel crimes. Others say that capital penalty is not acceptable in current society. I will discuss both pros and cons in upcoming paragraphs and also give my opinion.
Initiating with first statement, one of the most advantages of death punishment is discouraging criminal activities. Supporters argue that the fear of executed discourages people from committing serious crimes such as murder, terrorism, or rape. They believe it acts as a strong discouragement to serious criminals.
Many other people believe public safety and putting dangerous people to death, can stop them to commiting more crimes. For instance, less crime commited in Suadi Arbia beceause their laws are strict and offender get punished.
One of the most significant concerns is the possibility of carrying out the death sentence of innocent people due to errors in the judicial process. Once carried out, the death penalty is irreversible. For example, Afiya Siddiqui was punished by a United State attempt to murder and other felonies yet her lawyers were resistant to not involving these activities. However, their supporters requested the Government to release her. There is evidence in some countries that capital punishment is applied more frequently to individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds or minority groups, raising concerns of bias and inequality in the justice system. For instance, The death penalty is used in some countries; however, many people believe it is inhumane.
In my view, the disadvantages of the death penalty outweigh the advantages. The risk of executing an innocent person and the moral issues it raises are serious concerns. Life imprisonment without parole is a more humane and effective alternative. In today’s society, which values human rights, we should focus on fair trials, better law enforcement, and rehabilitation instead of the death penalty.
