A few individuals think that having an effective mentor is essential for academic achievement while others argue that personality of pupils determines the success. This essay explores both perspectives and encapsulates the need for positive attitude in children and the advantages of having a supportive teacher.
It is said that most of our attributes are innate whereas some are nurtured by parents. The importance of teachers are often overlooked as they are responsible for cognitive and sensory growth of the children. They shape up their personalities by creating a positive learning environment. The learning abilities of children is often ignored by parents as they set higher expectations for their young ones to achieve greater success. However, teachers are able to cater to all kind of learners and determine their capabilities. They can normalize failure for students and can inculcate interpersonal skills required to navigate their life. The environment created around kids have enormous impact on their attitudes. Though mentees are accountable for their decisions but a directional guidance by a mentor is required to set them up for success.
The personal attributes define an individual. Some are born with innate skills but natural talent is invaluable if not nurtured with care. The qualities like communication, leadership and empathy are subjected to the amount of exposure people experience. But traits like confidence, self-esteem and setting boundaries is defined by the environment that they grow in. For example, having narcissistic parents can result in low self-esteem and people pleasing capabilities whereas a kid with encouraging parents can have higher self-confidence to excel in their life.
To conclude, I am of the opinion that having extraordinary attributes can be advantageous but cannot set anyone up for success in most scenarios. However, a responsible mentor can nurture and foster the attitudes required for achieving higher success.
