It is true that it is beneficial for a nation to host a sporting event on international level. While there are serious negative consequences of hosting an international event, I would argue that these are outweighed by the advantages.
On the one hand, hosting any international event, mainly sports attracts attention and crowd from all over the world. A large number of people travel to the host country which results in littering and excess crowd in the stadium. Consequently, it leads to stampede in case of panic due to rumors or fear injuring the majority of people and some of them also lose their life. For instance, approximately eight people lost their life and several got injured badly because of a stampede which broke out during a cricket match which took place in India.
On the other hand, despite such grave issues, these are not insurmountable and must be considered against the benefits for the country hosting an international sporting event. When several people across the world travel to a host country to experience everything live, contributes towards the growth of tourism industry of the nation hosting a sports event. Furthermore, it would create more employment opportunities in numerous distinct sectors in order to manage the whole event. Consequently, it would boost growth of the economy of the host nation. For example, the recent olympics which was scheduled in Paris, attracted a lot of tourists in France, which have contributed towards the growth of the country’s economy by tourism and also generated employment for locals in various sectors.
To conclude, I believe that the advantages of a country hosting an international sporting event are greater than the drawbacks, serious though these are.
