It is widely believed that holding global sports events brings significant advantages to a country, whereas others argue that it results in financial pressure and social problems. This essay will discuss both these points of view and argue in favour of the former.
On the one hand, organizing major international sports competitions causes large problems for local citizens for multiple reasons. If there are global sports events in a country, it will lead to rising prices and living costs for locals. Food and housing are integral parts of daily life, and when they cost more expensive than in daily life, it got pronounced that there will be detrimental impacts for people living in the host city. For instance, during sports events such as Olympic Games or FIFA World Cup, prices of essential goods often rise sharply in host cities. As a result, local residents may struggle to afford basic necessities. However, hosting international sports events has more advantages than demerits.
On the other hand, staging large-scale sporting tournaments has certain benefits for country. Furthermore, different kinds of international sport competitions help to boost tourism and economics of a country in a short-time. Although the prices of essential goods may increase, this is a temporary issue that can help boost a country’s economy. For example, in summer the UFFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE was in Almaty. After this, home matches in Almaty were expected to brings over four thousand international visitors. These visitors were forecast to spend on hotels, transport, food and leisure, which led to an estimated economic contribution of around three billion tenge to the local economy. That is why, I believe that organizing sports events has plenty of benefits for country.
In conclusion, the organization of sports events may cause social and financial problems. However, I believe that managing sporting events has more advantages on economics.
