Band 6+: Some people believe it is better to study subjects that have practical applications. Others, however, think it is better to study subjects that are theoretical.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Technological and educational advancements have given a steep soaring effect to the widespread of subjects and contents that can enhance the tangible experience of the world. Even so, there are individuals who believe that a prevalent theoretical approach could be better to deal with everyday science challenges. In this essay I will outline the dissertation necessary to consider both aspects of knowledge within a balanced view, concluding with my own perspective about the outweigh of theoretical sciences.

Practical applications’ fields of knowledge have always been characterized by many different features. Firstly, these are composed by a group of skills researched by the vast majority of employers within the industrial job market. There are a number of abilities needed in a curriculm vitae that could enhance the overall technical companies’ performances including attention to detail, manifacturing and aim-driven actions. Secondly, practical knowledges are usually described within the STEM acronym that coincides with the hard sciences: this is considered one of the most important sectors of university research as well as job applications. Indeed, the vast majority of european funds for studies and project management are directed to hard sciences and technology departments that will boost up the nation cutting-edge advancements.

The theoretical field is probably the most difficult to appreciate for the majority of learners, even if its crucial characteristics should be addressed and revealed. Passing a lot of time on books and relying on abstract formulas or philosophical dissertations it is not reknown as a prestige nowadays in our contemporary society made up on smartphones and fast-paced environments. Today there are a lot of learners and potential scholars of different subjects including philosophy and maths that had spent their entire lives in developing their enlightened field of studies and are not considered useful in terms of tangible appliability within the job market. Even so, these subjects are historically relevant for our present educational system thus being the real solid basement of practical applications. The major percentage of subjects on tangible applications in modifying the real world which include constructing buildings, designing, planning and executing reflects the specific importance of the theoretical rules that dwell within them and have been discovered by past intellectuals. To conclude, even considering the contrast between both perspectives on practical and theoretical sciences, it is important to highlith some crucial nuances that can give new insights on how they can be integrated as a part of strengths in individual’s educational pathway. Nevertheless, in my view, we should consider the historical prestige that studying theoretical sciences could bring as an empowerment for the basis on which practical application reside.
