In today’s world, it is argued that peer influence is significant on younger generations, however others advocate that families and teachers are more effective. This essay will explore both sides of the discussion and provide examples on the topic.
In terms of the influence of parents and educational professionals, they undoubtedly hold the immense responsibility as role models for younger individuals in their surroundings. In other words, adolescents are mainly affected by adults’ behaviours around them especially at relatively younger ages. Therefore, elderly individuals should be more aware of the influence on young people, and they should behave with this perspective in mind during their daily tasks. For instance, a survey that took place in Sweden revealed that of individuals take most of their personal traits from older individuals who they were mostly observe.
On the other hand, peer influence is mostly seen as indispensable especially between age of 10 to 20 for many individuals. That is to say, young individuals follow their friends lead since they aim to foster a sense of belonging in their environment and social surroundings. Hence, they improve their self-esteem and become more confident, which serves as a beneficial asset in their future professional lives. It has been proven in a study which was conducted in Colorado University that students imitate their friends’ attitudes in the classroom and schoolyard to enhance their confidence and prevent bullying.
In conclusion, the discussion on influential aspects of adults and peers on younger generation has been going on recently. Even though the effects of both sides display a profound impact in this phenomenon, I support the idea that parents and teachers are the most influential ones in this situation.
