It is considered by some people that students should not be assigned homework on a daily basis. Meanwhile, others believe that one of the determining factors for students to excel at school is by working on a homework in a routine. In my opinion, home exercises should be given to students in a fair amount of proportion, so it doesn’t become a burden for them as well.
Although exercises have significantly proven to benefit students in many ways, if students have too much homework, this can cause them to feel stressed and burn out. On a daily basis, approximately 7-8 hours are spent for school, then, the remaining hours should be used for leisure time, where students can socialize, play, or simply take a rest. If homework is to be given every day, students would have a very limited time for themselves because more time has been allocated for studying.
On the other hand, if students are given a fair proportion of home assignments, they can focus on academics while maintaining their social life. Since character development is very crucial for children, not only do they have to focus on their studies, but they should also spare some of their time and spend it with friends and family. In terms of ways to make students excel in their studies, teachers can implement so many creative learning methods, in which students find both enjoyable and exciting, for instance, teamwork activities (exchange of ideas) and games (quizzes).
In conclusion, homework is essential and proven effective in sharpening students’ knowledge, however, it should be given in a manageable amount. Homework is not the only activity that can sharpen the performance of the student, many other ways can be practised.
