Many people argue that competitive sports, both team and individual should not be taught in school. In my views, I disagree with this idea because competitive sports play an important role in the development of children.
On the one hand , it is undeniable that students involved with competitive sports have a high possibility of physic trauma. Take, for example, in basketball where they have a contact with other players, injuries happen very often and this might lead to break a legs or brain damage. Futhermore, competitive sports are less useful than other subjects such as maths, history,.. in working life. Therefore, some people believed that competitive sports should be removed from school curriculum.
On the other hand, I think competitive sports have more benefits for all participants. Since competitive sports require a strong focus and physic exertion so players must improve physical conditioning and speed of thought or reaction time. In addition, the role of competitive sports are essential in the development in a range of crucial skills. For instance, when children join with team sports, this will teach them the way to build teamwork or how to have a good communication and achive common goals.
In conclusion, athough there is still debate about including competitive sports in school curriculum, I think competitive sports in school curriculum are of paramount importance as they come up with the children’s precious physical and cognitive development.
