Some individuals argue that exams are an indefinite way to assess students’ performance; instead, continuous assessment methods should be applied. As education is necessary for building a stronger foundation of a nation, I strongly disagree with this view because students need structured and genuine evaluation. My explanation will be elaborated in the upcoming paragraphs.
There are various reasons to disagree with replacing examinations with continuous assessment.
To begin with, exams are designed to assess knowledge according to the standard board of council. They are a part of compulsory education that equips learners with basic literacy and evaluates them using standardized tools. These tests not only provide accurate ranking of students across the nation but also help in obtaining government jobs. For example, a student who scores well in an examination is able to get a prestigious government job.
Another reason supporting my disagreement is to avoid bias. Teachers often have prejudices about their students based on their interaction and participation in the classroom.Although continuous assessment would give personalized remarks to students, it would also be biased for many students. For example, a student who always outshines in tests is more likely to get more attention from tutors. Furthermore, students would not learn basic skills that exams teach, such as time management, critical thinking, and brainstorming.
In conclusion, exams are believed to be an incorrect method of assessment for educational institutions and should be replaced by continuous assessment. I strongly disagree because exams provide standardized assessment and are free from biased behaviours.
