Major academic institutions rely on exams to grade students’ performances in order to identify final grade. Some people suppose that this grading method is quite ineffective and should be replaced with another kind of system named continuous assessment. Personally I agree with that opinion because this type of assessment allows less stress and more student endeavor.
First of all, the examination system withdraws a huge amount of cortisol due to its infrequency. An ordinary student is more feared when he faces a singular major exam ,especially in an audience full of other pupils with the same amount of fear. Ultimately it leads to low examination mark even if that person has studied. This stress leads to 2 dreadful results: a student gets unfair grade regardless of his knowledge and harms his own mental health. Comparatively alternative method is not as harmful.
Secondly, giving students a way to enhance their grades in more time makes them gain more long term perspective information, more effort and less stress hormones. Those schoolers under no weight of constant marking during study period show less effort and start to memorize the curriculum just a week before the exam. In contrast, with continuous assessment they constantly study developing their core memory. Consequently, schools and universities achieve their final goal of raising great educated generation.
In conclusion, current method of examination seems to be less effective than continuous assessment due to its stressfulness and short term effectiveness. Therefore,I fully agree that examinations should be replaced with alternative continuous assessment because it provides a more reliable picture of students’ knowledge and does not make them suffer with health problems.
