The world is polarized into two groups: one favoring a work-from-home system, while others argue for the traditional system of employment, that is, working from the office. Although remote working provides employees with flexibility as well as comfort in their employment, the formal workplace facilitates teamwork. I firmly believe that a harmonious system where the regular office system, along with the option to switch to remote working in case of emergencies, should be adopted.
On the one hand, comfort and adjustable working hours are the key driving forces behind remote working. Employees need not travel to the workplace, which saves a significant amount of time and energy. Moreover, employees have the option to work either from home or from any location, such as a cafe, as per the convenience of the individual. Furthermore, individuals are supposed to complete their tasks within the given time irrespective of the hours of work and the timing of the work, which provides enormous flexibility in employment. They can adjust their working hours as per their needs. As a result, remote working makes the job more convenient and adjustable.
On the flip side, a formal working setting assists in building relationships and team spirit among staff members. When an assignment requires the involvement of several individuals, they need to discuss and allocate tasks as per their roles, which mandates face-to-face interactions that are possible only in the case of formal work settings. Apart from this, regular conversations, performing work in groups, having lunch together, and the discipline maintained in the workplace help in building team spirit as well as peer relationships.
To conclude, working from home seems to be more suitable for employees in terms of convenience and for the better management of personal and professional life. However, the discipline, dedication, and teamwork in office working cannot be ignored. Thus, a middle ground would be more suitable.
