At present, globalization makes people’s lives more convenient as they have access to follow foreign culture and tradition. Many people claim that it has become easier for people to foster other cultures due to globalization, whereas some argue that it contributes to decline cultural identity of a nation. Generally, people support globalization because it boosts economy and helps cultural exchange, while others think that cultural homogenization and the decline of traditions are caused by globalization, which I prefer as well.
Globalization helps to improve global communication, regardless of geographical distance; therefore, people can talk and contract with others easily. Nowadays, people follow Western culture by watching movies, and listening to music. As a result, they have a good command in foreign languages. Proficiency in foreign languages open windows for work and study in abroad. For instance, a majority of people throughout the world earn remittance through remote job because they have proficiency in English, which is the official language of many countries. Therefore, people rely heavily on globalization to meet their fundamental rights.
However, some individuals think that due to exposure of different cultures, people may gradually lose their own identity. Furthermore, people want to follow trends, so they prioritize other cultures rather than their own. Hence, excessive exposure to foreign traditions decline a country’s own tradition and customs. For example, in Bangladesh, the younger generation wear Western outfits, which are inappropriate in their country; as a result, this trend creates social unrest. So, many people feel fear about the decline of own cultures, traditions, history, as well as languages.
In conclusion, an increasing number of individuals think globalization provides opportunities for understanding culture of different countries, while others believe it declines cultures. From my perspective, globalization reduces a country’s identity because of continuous exposure of mixed cultures.
